Types of outdoor signs

Outdoor signs are how a storefront is read from the street. These are the types most often used on commercial buildings.

Channel letters

Channel letters are three-dimensional letters or logos mounted to a building. They can be illuminated or not. Faces, fonts, colours, and lighting can be specified per job.

Blade signs

Blade signs, also called projecting signs, mount perpendicular to the building so they can be read from more than one direction. They are common on pedestrian streets, in indoor and outdoor malls, and sometimes inside a store to mark a section.

Sign cabinets

Sign cabinets, also called lightboxes, are a custom-sized aluminum box with an internally lit face. The face can carry a logo, graphics, or lettering. On a plaza, the acrylic face can be stripped of vinyl and reprinted if a tenant changes, so the cabinet itself can stay.

Banners

Banners are a lower-cost outdoor option. They can be temporary or built for a longer display.

Halo letters

Halo letters, also called reverse channel letters, have a metal face and an open back. When they are lit, the light hits the wall behind the letter and reads as a halo around it.

CNC-cut letters

CNC-cut letters are non-illuminated letters cut from materials such as acrylic, metal, or PVC and mounted to the building.
